Family isn't supposed to abandon you when times get tough, but that's exactly what my stepbrother did.

It's been ten years since I've seen Creed. He left after his mom died, and he never looked back. He claimed if I ever needed him, he'd be there.

After my dad comes home in a drunken rage and nearly kills me, I've finally had enough. I call him, not expecting much, but hoping he'd remember. Hoping he missed me. Hoping he'd help me.

And he does. He invites me to stay with him, and I accept. I have no one else.

But he's changed. He's harder, crueler, different from the boy I remember, and he starts to look at me in a way a stepbrother shouldn't. Possessive. Like he owns me, my soul, and everything I am.

It's wrong. I grew up idolizing him, and now. now it's nearly impossible to pretend he's the same boy, even harder to picture him as my stepbrother. I can't help but start to fall.
